Jessica Alba's career began over a decade ago when she started taking her very first acting class at age 12. After studying with William H. Macy and his wife Felicity Huffman, Alba later landed her first agent the following year. Since then she has acted in several feature films, as well as starring in her own television series, the recently cancelled Dark Angel. Being voted this year by People Magazine as one of "50 Most Beautiful People", it's hardly in question why she'd be cast as the Invisible Woman, the sexy and strong, right-hand-woman, and love interest, of the team's leader, Mr. Fantastic (Ioan Gruffudd).
For Alba, who has been very vocal about her desire to play strong female roles that are seen for their abilities and not as just eye candy, playing the Invisible Woman has definitely been a career hi-light. 'It's been really nice to dive into a character and be a chameleon, to change and show different sides of yourself. She's intelligent, and she's maternal,' said Alba, 'She keeps these boys in line, she takes care of business when she needs to, and does it all like a lady.'
Like any other actor who has been successful in their work portraying a comic book superhero, there is the chance that the actor can be seen as that character for the duration of their career. For Alba, this does not to seem to be much of a fear at all, as she responds to this question with a simple answer: 'Sue has blonde hair and blue eyes.' (Which Alba had to adopt specifically for the role). 'I'm free and clear!'
The Fantastic Four is a project of many first for many involved. For director, Tim Story, it is the first action-adventure, comic-based film that he has ever directed. And for Alba and the rest of the cast, it is their first time working with Tim. Based on cast and crew response, especially from Alba, it's safe to say that any fears Story had about directing such a huge project, should be immediately laid to rest. 'He created an environment that was so much like a family,' said Alba about working with Tim Story, 'We (the cast and crew) were really open to love eachother and be a family and be creative within the confines of a tough time schedule.'
The Invisible Woman, who not only has the ability to turn invisible, but also use invisible force-fields to deflect enemies, is someone whose powers could certainly come in handy for Alba who is thought of by many to be one of the world's most sexiest women. Rather than have the same abilities as her on-screen counterpart, if given the choice, Alba would have a very different superpower. 'I'm always late, so I would need the ability to stop time,' said Alba, 'I'd stop everything, but could still move around and get ready.' With the release and imminent success of the Fantastic Four, its safe to say Alba will never be invisible in the eyes of both movie and comic fans alike. I can't speak for time ' but I can tell you one thing ' Jessica Alba definitely has the ability to stop your heart dead in its tracks with just a smile.
