Emily Blunt Joins Gulliver’s Travels — But is She Still in Iron Man 2?

emily_blunt-gullivers_travels-iron_man_2-black_widowEmily Blunt and Jason Segel have both just joined the cast of Fox’s Gulliver’s Travels, which is set to star Jack Black as the titular character in the classic Jonathan Swift adventure/satire.

However, this might conflict with another role Blunt was recently offered, that of the Black Widow in Iron Man 2.  In casting Blunt, Fox is exercising an option leftover from her Devil Wears Prada contract, and since the shooting schedules of both Iron Man 2 and Gulliver’s Travels overlap (they both lense this spring), that could shut her out of playing Tony Stark’s latest nemesis.

Variety reports that Blunt’s reps are currently working overtime to figure out a schedule on which she could do both films, and “by late Thursday, it looked like Fox and Blunt’s reps were feeling more optimistic” about that possibility.  But it’s still up in the air.

The temptation might be to get mad at Fox for possibly not allowing Blunt to play a skin-tight-leather-clad assassin spy, but in reality, these sorts of scheduling conflicts happen frequently.  Still, though — Blunt as a skin-tight-leather-clad assassin spy.  Make it work, people!

Segel, meanwhile, is another in-demand actor but is not, to anyone’s knowledge, being sought after to play an Iron Man 2 villain.  He does, however, have I Love You, Man with Paul Rudd coming out, and is still developing a big-screen Muppets revival movie.  Being cast in Gulliver’s Travels might have something to do with Gulliver’s screenwriter Nicholas Stoller, who directed Segel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
