Josh Duhamel
While many people seem to think of Shia LaBeouf or Megan Fox as the perennial sex symbols of Transformers, it’s fair to say that one left in the lurch is Josh Duhamel.
Duhamel’s looks first gained him attention in music videos before scoring a role as Leo du Prez on the soap opera All My Children in 1999. He has since had a steady career with a role as Danny McCoy on the TV series Las Vegas as well as roles in films like The Picture Of Dorian Gray, Win A Date With Tad Hamilton! and Turistas.
Now the 36 year-old actor returns as Army Ranger William Lennox in the new sequel Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. Despite a promotion in the newest outing from Captain to Major, Josh says his experience in the original film did not require him a lot of training for the newest film.
“Yeah, the first one we had the first few days out in Fort Irwine and the second time, we sort of jumped into it,” he says, “I was in New York and we just sort of had a bit of a refresher course, but there are military advisors. Harry Humphreys is out there and a number of people from all facets of the military.”
“And I think we both took a lot of pride in trying to represent the military as close as we could,” Duhamel adds, “I’ve got a lot of friends in military and over in Iraq, so that was my main focus, to try to represent them all and make them proud. And if they didn’t, they’d let us know, believe me.”
Duhamel said that despite what were described as long, grueling 12 hour shoots, he said that he found the movie’s filming a fun experience, particularly with co-star Tyrese Gibson, who plays his partner Air Force Technical Sargent-turned-Combat Controller Robert Epps.
“Tyrese took the night shift,” Josh claims, “I guess the most fun I had was the scene getting to, and as I said, trying to be as accurate as we could, and my favorite scene was throwing the National Security Advisor off the plane. So, but, that’s the most fun I had. It was just a fun scene to do and there was a nice little stunt involved. Yeah, that was probably my most memorable, that and the gigantic bomb that went off.”
Another thing he constantly imparted to Gibson was his passion for last year’s intense presidential election ,which consumed Josh throughout filming.
“That’s what I’m there for,” Duhamel claims, “I was worried that after throwing the NSA guy off the plane, I might get audited.”
Since Duhamel clearly enjoyed playing a soldier in now two Transformers films, we wondered if he would ever consider working with the Department Of Defense again in a future film
“I definitely would with them again,” Josh replies, “Michael [Bay]has a great relationship with them.”
Our final question for Josh was one posed to us by none other than co-star Megan Fox, which was, using her words, how does Josh Duhamel do it (as in working out), that specimen of a human being?”
“Well, Megan, you’re out there literally sweating all day long and you don’t have a lot of energy running all day long running in the sand,” Josh replies, with a grin, “Tyrese and I worked out a little bit. It was more of a personal competition. He’d spot me and I’d spot him.”
“What’s the big deal?,” he adds, “Honestly, before we started the first one, I remember Michael told me come ready, be in shape. I do work out a lot, my male actors especially in these movies, so I try to be strong and ready to go as I could.”
