Zac Efron has a new release in 2010 that sounds like he could be well on his way to shedding his teeny bopper image. His next film “The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud.” Stars Zac as a caretaker of a cemetery, who also happens to be able to see and speak to the departed after a near fatal car crash that spared him, but not his brother Sam. Every evening he goes to a near by forest to play catch and speak with his deceased brother. It isn’t until he meets Tess, a beautiful young girl that he must decide to keep a promise he made to Sam, or follow his heart and be with Tess.
Like previous teen pinups before him, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise, Efron wants to be taken seriously as an actor and is choosing his scripts more carefully. Dropping out of the “Footloose” movie, was probably a good indication that he is trying to grow up, at least as an actor. Whether or not he is picking the right roles, time will tell. However his upcoming “Me and Orson Welles” looks very promising and it could be the dawn of a whole new Zac.
