In a Bahamian supreme court, John Travolta testified that his son was in fact autistic. He admitted this on the first day of his extortion trial. The Travolta’s had always denied this, saying their son suffered from a rare blood disorder called Kawasaki’s disease. Jett died last January on their new year’s vacation in the Bahamas of a severe seizure. Jett suffered seizures every 5-10 days, lasting 45 seconds to a minute. The boy would usually sleep for 12 hours afterwards. A former Bahamas Senator, Pleasant Bridewater and former paramedic Tarino Lightbourne, are accused of conspiring and attempting to extort $25 million from Travolta with threats of releasing sensitive documents surrounding the death of his son. Lightbourne was a paramedic at the scene when Jett Travolta had a seizure in the family home.
The sensitive document, turned out to be a liability form that Travolta signed releasing the paramedics from all liability. Initially, the Travolta’s refused to send their son to the hospital, but instead wanted to go to straight to their private jet at the airport and head back to Florida to seek treatment. Travolta then changed his mind and agreed to go to the hospital. The trial began September 21 and is expected to last several weeks.
