Before anyone gets their Star Trek long johns in a twist, I know: the Green Lantern is the only really proper superhero among the three characters I’ve listed. The Green Hornet is more of a “crime fighter” than a “superhero”. And starring in a DC comic doesn’t automatically make Jonah Hex a “superhero.”
It’s just shorthand [...]

All This ‘Watchmen’ Hype is Getting a Little Ridiculous
It’s only a week and a half until Watchmen opens — though if you’ve been following the film online, you may feel like you’ve seen it already.
That’s because, oh, a dozen or so clips have been released online. In addition to all the ancillary material, like the trailer for the tie-in DVD Tales of the [...]
Hollywood Trade News 2/24: ‘Hot Tub Time Machine’, ‘Iron Man 2′, ‘Robin Hood’
I haven’t done one of these round-ups in a couple of weeks, but a number of interesting projects are coming together that are easily worth mentioning:
-John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson (Knocked Up), and Clark Duke (Sex Drive) will star in Hot Tub Time Machine, based on a script — about a hot tub that’s [...]
2/6 Hollywood Trade News: Brad Pitt, Green Lantern, and Candy Land?
Brad Pitt and Steven Soderbergh will team up post-Ocean’s for Moneyball, an adaptation of Michael Lewis’s nonfiction book about how the Oakland Athletics baseball team was able to go up against better-funded franchises thanks to sophisticated computer analysis.
Jason Bateman will star in The Baster as a neurotic man who, upon finding out his best friend [...]
Neat-O Watchmen Character Portraits
The Watchmen posters and images just keep coming. This particular set, an exclusive from Empire Online that appears in the book Watchmen: Portraits by Clay Enos, especially caught my eye thanks to the black-and-white artistry. You’ll notice that the one of Billy Crudup shows him decked out in his Dr. Manhattan motion-capture gear. Click on [...]
The Green Hornet is Still On; Sandler Cameos
One of the more minor things to come out of the Sundance Film Festival was the rumor that The Green Hornet, which is set to star Seth Rogen as the title crimefighter, was about to be put in turnaround. Kung Fu Hustle’s Stephen Chow had previously been hired to direct and co-star as the Hornet’s [...]
The Academy Shoots Self in Foot, Does Not Nominate The Dark Knight
[UPDATE: Read this terrific article from the Chicago Tribune. It casts an even bleaker picture of the upcoming ratings and touches on some important points I don't mention.]
That headline does not refer to my being annoyed that my favorite film of 2008 was not nominated for Best Picture Director, or Adapted Screenplay because I personally [...]
Sweet New ‘Wolverine’ Character Shot
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is undergoing some extensive reshoots in Vancouver right now, but I refuse to take this as a bad sign for the movie. The original run of filming was marred with disagreements between Gavin Hood and 20th Century Fox over the look of the film, with Hood trying for a darker tone and [...]
Mickey Rourke the Iron Man 2 Villain?
We post our share of rumors and triviality on this site, but when we want hard facts, we generally trust the two Hollywood trade papers: Variety and the Hollywood Reporter. So what happens when they flatly contradict each other?
Both papers ran stories about Iron Man 2 casting. Both papers said Mickey Rourke was up for [...]
Wolverine Trailer! Gambit! Sabertooth! Deadpool! Blob!
It’s nice to see another X-Men movie coming out. Sure, it’s a spin-off/prequel, not X-Men 4, but then again, it’s not directed by Brett Ratner, either.
What would you rather have: a straightforward X-Men 4 directed by the Rat, or a movie with only a few mutants in it, including Wolverine and Gambit, directed by relative [...]
