Ice Age: Continental Drift

Manny, Sid, and Diego are back! They even have some new friends to join them on their continental drift adventure.

Manny (Ray Romano) is busy being an overly protective dad to his teenaged daughter Peaches (Keke Palmer) when suddenly the earth beneath them breaks apart, separating Manny from his family and the rest of the gang out to sea.

Continental Drift is a little bit more focused on fun 3-D animation than it is on story, but who cares? Your kids sure won’t. There are enough jokes for adults to remain entertained too, even a knock or two at the third movie (“We fought dinosaurs. It didn’t make sense but it sure was exciting!”). It’s not as concise as the first Ice Age, but that tends to happen by the fourth go around. This movie is action-packed with plenty of great 3-D moments.

Once Manny, Sid, Diego, and Sid’s granny, Granny, are lost and drifting away into the sea, they run into a pirate ship. The pirates seem nice at first but really just want to gain more members for their swindling crew. As soon as Sid, Manny, Granny, and Diego are all on board the ship, the pirates start singing a song, complete with dance moves. This felt really out of place considering it was the only song in the entire movie, but again, your kids won’t care.

Not only did this movie have the original voice actors of all the characters, they also brought in a whole slew of new characters with an all star cast. Nicki Minaj, Peter Dinklage, Nick Frost, Drake, Wanda Sykes, and Aziz Ansari and many more all contributed their voices to the film. So even if you can’t stand kids’ movies, you’ll at least have a fun time recognizing famous voices.

Ice Age: Continental Drift is a fun ride for the whole family to enjoy. Take the kids for a weekend outing. If you don’t have any children, go see it alone. Our favorite sloth, mammoth, and sabre-toothed tiger make it easy to feel like you’re seven years old again, even if it’s only for ninety-four minutes.

Synopsis:

Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they explore a new world.
