Director John McTiernan (personally, my favorite director of all time) has been sentenced to12 months in prison.

The director became involved in the infamous Anthony Pellicano wiretapping case back in 2006, when he received a phone call by federal agents asking him if he had any knowledge of the wiretapping affairs of Pellicano, a famous private detective in Hollywood.  McTiernan told the officers over the phone 'no', but a tape from 2000 of McTiernan discussing wiretapping producer Charles Roven with Pellicano was produced via a search of Pellicano's home.

McTiernan was ordered to pay a $100,000 fine and three years probation, in addition to his one year jail sentence.

The prosecutors in the case argued that McTiernan lied to federal agents regarding his knowledge of the wiretapping, while McTiernan's defense hinged on the fact that he was 'tired' when receiving the late-night phone call.  McTiernan's defense also argued that federal authorities didn't follow proper procedure by making the call, but should have rather sent two agents to McTiernan's home for formal questioning.

McTiernan's attorney's argued that the director had already paid for his part in the Pellicano case, citing that the director has lost money (disclosed that McTiernan's net worth is only $103,000) and paid emotionally over the last four years while the case against Pellicano went on.  The judge disagreed, and sentenced McTiernan to a full year in prison.  McTiernan is currently out on bond pending appeal.

McTiernan hadn't directed a film since 2003's Basic, but currently has The Camel Wars in post production.  McTiernan's list of directing credits include Rollerball, The Thomas Crown Affair, Die Hard: With a Vengeance, Last Action Hero, Hunt for Red October, Die Hard, and Predator.
