Kate Beckinsale’s Vagina is a Deadly Weapon!

The icing on the cake for director Len Wiseman wasn’t successfully directing his first feature film Underworld which went on to spawn 3 sequels and a powerful franchise, or even being place at the helm of other major Hollywood properties like the most recent Die Hard film or the upcoming Total Recall. No, the cherry on top of his Sunday was marrying his gorgeous, ass kicking Underworld star, Kate Beckinsale.

The two were married in 2004 and have continued to work successfully together ever since; clearly proving that mixing business and pleasure isn’t always a bad thing.

In their most recent collaboration, Wiseman chose to cast his wife in the role of Laurie, a duplicitous operative working for the evil Chancellor Cohagen who is bent on world domination. Aside from having to be the films’ main baddie, she also has to share several intimate moments with co-star Colin Farrell; the roguishly handsome and charming Irishman who makes every man hold his wife a little bit closer… just in case. But watching as his wife steamily locks lips with this on screen stud wasn’t the moment that gave me pause as an audience member. For me, it was the scene where Beckinsale’s vagina becomes more powerful than any fist or foot ever could be as it slams into Farrell’s face in the midst of huge exchange of fisticuffs. And well, vagina-cuffs as well I suppose.

When asked what it was that made him think using his wife’s vagina as a deadly weapon was a good idea, Wiseman begins to playfully respond, “Well, it’s because I came home very late one day…,” but then trails off into laughter. “[The truth is] I’m always looking for new moves and things that we haven’t seen before,’ he begins. ‘I will say, at the time, I didn’t think it would be so much of a vagina punch in the face. I thought it would be much more like using your thighs to kind of grip somebody. So, you know, not until you actually see it visually… [does it clearly become a cooter slam].”

“But I will tell you that that was a move that I created,’ he states proudly. ‘It wasn’t something that we put together with stunt coordinators… you know, I wanted that kind of move to happen and I just thought it would be sort of a surprise as well. But you can only do that if you have a level like this. So, the only reason that that entire set was built with a bedroom that was dropped down is so she could do that crotch punch. That is the only reason, which actually created a very cool set. It was nice to kind of have those levels where he kind of crawls out of his bed. But it was at the exact height. If you look back it’s like when he pulls himself up, the height of the bedroom is so that he could actually kneel and his neck was right here so she could slide right into his face.”

I had to imagine that this particular set up led to many, many interesting dinner time conversations between the couple. “Yes,’ he confirms. “We have to measure from here to there,’ he laughs. ‘And also she had to basically wear a cup. We had her on a wire. We were pulling her really fast. Then she had a pull lone on her to keep her from actually fully slamming in and knocking his neck back. But there was plenty of time where she slid in… So, she’s like, ‘this is the first time I’ve ever worn a cup… ever.’

All kidding aside it is amazing to see a relationship between director and star last as long as theirs has despite the problems inherent in working together in a collaborative medium that at times demands conflict and disagreement.

“There’s times,’ he admits. “But the reason that we do work together, funny enough, is the other reason. We don’t disagree that much about tastes on certain things. Like when you’re creating a movie and a character, we’re very like-minded with that. So, part of the reason why she also [does action films with me is because] she trusts me and my taste. So if she’s going to do a movie like this, she would prefer that it’s with me because I have the same taste as she does.”

To many people’s surprise Kate doesn’t really see herself as an action hero. “It’s not really her first instinct. You know, she’s kind of baffled by the fact that she’s considered an action star. And so, she’s been offered a lot.” But despite all of those offers if Kate Beckinsale is going to be on screen kicking major ass, she’d rather her husband be behind the camera guiding her.

“And so, the problems are how I answer this question versus how she answers this question. You know, it’s this round. [during press interviews] ‘What are the problems with working with her?’ Well, let me tell the world the troubles in our marriage,’ he jokes.

In spite of media scrutiny, the pair is as close as ever and I think the world can expect many more powerhouse collaborations from them. So fear not waiting public there may be more vagina punches in our near future!
