Matt Damon has been cast to play the late Robert F. Kennedy in a New Regency biopic based on Evan Thomas’ RFK biography His Life, according to Deadline.com.

The book, published in 2000, explores Kennedy’s career in American politics and his life as a member of America’s own royal family up until his assassination in 1968 during his campaign for President.

Steven Knight, who is also working on the screenplay for Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol, is writing the adaptation of His Life. Gary Ross will direct the film.

This year, Matt Damon is nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar for his role as South African rugby player Francois Pienaar in Clint Eastwood’s Invictus.

Up next for Damon: Steven Soderbergh’s Contagion, The Coen Brothers’ True Grit and Hereafter, another Clint Eastwood film. Damon’s latest movie, Green Zone debuts March 12.
