In a lot of ways, Season of the Witch got a bit of a bad rap when it was released in January of 2011. It was an ambitious yet contained fantasy yarn that had all the elements of a sleeper hit, particularly in the slow months following the fall blockbuster season. People seemed to write it off as another bland Nicolas-Cage-wears-a-wig-and-has-one-liners flick and the reviews felt like they were composed on auto-pilot. It’s not that the movie doesn’t have broad mass appeal, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s going to develop quite a cult following on home video, and luckily for its fans, the release is almost upon us.

On June 28th you can own Season of the Witch on Bluray and DVD. The set comes with a ton of special features, including an exclusive Alternate Ending. I was pretty happy with the ending that was in the film, so I’m excited to find out what the finale originally was. Even if you’re usually weary of swords and sorcery stuff, I’d highly recommend giving this one a go, and you never know… you might be pleasantly surprised.
