The BANE (or BAIN) of our Political Existence

I know we’re not supposed to get political, but often times it’s hard for me to resist. And this was just too perfect and appropriate for me to ignore.

Mitt Romney was involved in Bain Capital and Bane is the villain for The Dark Knight Rises opening on Friday July 20th. In our digital age of facebook and rampant memes, how could I not post for all TCS-ers to see and hopefully chuckle about this doctored image.

The really funny thing is that on Tuesday, Rush Limbaugh blasted the finale to Christopher Nolan‘s highly respected trilogy (which so far has grossed almost $1 billion in box office sales alone for the first two films) by implying that the character was named ‘Bane’ so as to facilitate comparisons to his right wing nut job pal, Mittens.

Being ever informed as Rush-ie Boy always is, I think he missed the part where the director pulled the character (name and all) out of the 1993 comic book Batman: Vengeance of Bane. I realize that Nolan is an incredibly smart, talented director who sees the big picture, but if he’s been planning this for nearly 20 years just to take a pot shot at a political figure, then we should just give the man the Oscar now and ask him for next week’s lottery numbers and call it a day.

Blowhard, I mean, Limbaugh was quoted saying, “Do you think it is accidental that the name of the really vicious fire-breathing, four-eyed whatever-it-is villain in this movie is named Bane?”

Not to give anything away but Bane only has two eyes, doesn’t breathe fire and is actually against all of the wealthy wall street type tycoons that both Limbaugh and Mittens adore and protect like helpless disabled children. Just sayin.’ With all the money that he makes, you’d think he could employ just one fact checker on his staff for moments like this.

Politics aside though, you have to admit, it’s pretty damn funny.
