No one was more excited by the prospect of a tenth season of the longest running Superman inspired television show in history than I was! Eight years was amazing, a ninth year was a gift but a tenth and final year of watching my childhood heroes come to life over and over again on screen is an embarrassment of riches.
Even when Smallville made mistakes or took unfortunate detours from the high caliber of programming that it was known for, it always stayed true to the heart of the original story. The All American farm boy with morals and values that most of us can only vaguely recall ever existing in this world growing up to become the world’s greatest hero.
Over the past nine years Clark Kent (Tom Welling) has faced trial after trial battling his greatest foes such as Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum), Doomsday (Sam Witwer), Bizzaro (a darker Tom Welling) and even an army of displaced Kryptonians led by his fathers greatest enemy General Zod (Callum Blue). And although he’s had many victories there have also been significant losses; Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore), Lana Lang (Kristen Kruek) and of course his own father, Jonathan Kent (John Schneider).
This final year promises to be the most difficult of them all as Clark comes face to face with some of those people that he’s lost, either to death or to forced separation. And all as he faces his greatest challenge ever… Darkseid.
