fantastic,” she says, “It’s like Hannah can get herself out of any situation with a piece of rope and a carabino, (laughing) you know what I mean? That was kind of the challenge. I was up in my hotel room, I was being taught by the guys that taught me how to repel and do all this kind of specialized action, how to tie the knots. I was very adamant about Hannah being able to tie the knots with her eyes close, because if you really know something, it’s very evident.”
“So I was sitting in my hotel room a lot with the pieces of rope, tying specialized knots with my eyes closed, which is actually very satisfying and I highly recommend it to anybody who’s interested,” Briem adds, “Yeah, that’s weird. So that became the challenge. Now we find ourselves in this very seriously dangerous, life-threatening situation, how is Hannah going to save the day with a piece of rope? With two guys, I’m like how am I going to save these bozos from harm (laughing)?” The story of Journey To The Center Of The Earth takes place in a seemingly atypical location, the country of Iceland. Whenever I go home, snowmobiling across the glacier, there’s a real sense that the environment is magnificent and it’s breathtaking, but at the same time, it could swallow you up and make it disappear at any given moment.” Anita also had little qualms about being the only female in the film or the fact that the film’s sole performers are herself, Brendan Fraser, and Josh Hutcherson. “It’s always better to be the only female on set, of course,” Briem laughs, “No, no, it’s a very different experience, but in this, with Journey, it was wonderful to only have three characters in the movie.” “We have a great time where there is only three of us on set,” she adds, “We did a lot of action stuff and sort of discovering the world, discovering the magical world of the 3D together, so it was a great journey. I think it makes the relationship between the characters all the more intimate and interesting and the audience can get more invested in these three people as we take them on this dangerous journey to the center of the earth.” One thing Briem says she was impressed by ... |
