Elisha Cuthbert
Interview by: Bruce Bluett The word on the street for a while, at least in my domain, has been, “Have you seen the trailer for The Girl Next Door?”. Although I think Emile Hirsch is a good guy and all, I was watching for Elisha Cuthbert. She can be seen gracing the front covers of magazines, in the addictive show 24, and in the wildly popular Old School…but not until now has she had her time to shine. Cuthbert has come a long way since her times as the host of Popular Mechanics for Kids to playing Danielle, the ex-porn star lead of The Girl Next Door. As dramatic a shift as that sounds, Cuthbert takes it all in stride. “If I thought the film was about promoting the porn industry I wouldn’t have chosen to do the film. To me, the porn aspect of this movie is merely the twist in the whole story. I met a couple of them (porn stars), you know they’re tough girls. But then I had to say to them ‘I’ll be the lead and not do any nudity’. Even though it was written that way, and even though that’s typical nowadays. I just felt like it wasn’t necessary”, explains Cuthbert. “If you show full nudity the second time we see this character (Danielle), what was there to look forward to in the rest of this? This is a character that has to draw this young, innocent boy in and make him do things he doesn’t want to. I thought if we just threw it all away in the second scene, it would have ruined everything”. When you look at the big picture, it can be argued that the plot of The Girl Next Door resembles that of another teen movie in particular. What the film in question did for its generation is something Cuthbert feels would be very flattering to achieve again. “When people say that it ... |
