just gave us free reign to experiment.”

Halle Berry was deeply enthusiastic when it came to sharing her experience of filming with co-star Bruce Willis

“He’s funny,” she recollects, “If you go back to his Moonlighting days, he’s really funny. This was a suspense/thriller that was tightly woven. There was very little room for improv, but Bruce wanted to improv every day anyway. And so he did and it would be so funny. Not for our movie anyway, but funny, nonetheless. And it’s a shame that most of it ends up on the floor, because he’s really funny. In every take, he was able to find the humor in everything that he would say. And he would be like, ‘What if I said it that way?’ and James would be like, ‘But this isn’t a comedy! It’s a thriller!’”

She also shared her admiration for how co-star Giovanni Ribisi’s took a more idiosyncratic approach to his character in Perfect Stranger

“He’s very smart and he spent lots of time and energy trying to bring every little nuance to his character,” reveals Berry, “Because on the page, he was written as this guy Friday, who was this overweight, pudgy, very unattractive, nerdy computer geek, very stereotypical. And Giovanni came in and said, ‘No, I’m not going to be that guy. This is the guy I’m going to be.’ He really brought in a lot more to the role than what was on the page.”

“Oh, yeah. If people liked the movie enough and really got into the journeys of these characters and embraced what this film is all about and it warranted another movie, I would revisit her again. I’d like to see what happens now. I’d be interested in knowing.”

One of the more distinctive scenes in Perfect Stranger is when Halle’s character Rowena becomes physically sick. Unlike most actors, she says she chose not to go the easy, clean, and safe route for the camera.

“It’s not nice, trust me,” she recollects, “But I thought, ‘I’m not going to do some like, you know, just go for it.’ And I didn’t want to and there’s many tricks you can do. You can just chew up things and then just spit it out. But there’s something about someone who’s that ill and who is feeling nauseas. There’s a color to your face and a way you look that it’s impossible to act.”

Berry was even gracious enough to explain how far she went to get herself “in character” for such an unpleasant scene,

“Something that really makes me sick is raw fish,” Halle reveals, “I had them bring me the biggest plate of raw fish. I said, ‘I’m probably going to do this ten times.’ So I just ate pieces of raw fish and within a minute of eating raw fish, up it comes again. And not like sushi fish, like raw fish, like with the head on it. And it really helped get me to where I really wanted to be for that scene, because faking ...
