all solid with Chloe Sevigny and Lucy Liu especially making an impression. Of all the stories, it’s the final African tale with Sevigny’s sacrifices for a small village having the greatest effect. Director Thom Fitzgerald, although amateurish at times, does manage to fill his film with some shocking and memorable scenes. The initial group circumcision scene and Lucy Liu giving birth by herself spring to mind. The film itself is heading to TV as soon as next week and will be much more comfortable on the smaller screen.
It’s hard to dislike a film with such good intentions and some strong acting make it a worthy TV movie, suitable to be shown in schools. It just never manages to transcend its self-enforced boundaries to become anything else.
Movie Grade: C
Synopsis:
A three-paneled look at the worldwide AIDS crisis: in Montreal, a porn actor (Ashmore) schemes to pass his mandatory blood test; a young nun (Sevigny) makes a personal sacrifice for the benefit of a South African village; in rural China, a black market operative (Liu) posing as a goverment-sanctioned blood drawer jeopardizes an entire village's safety. |
