50 First Dates
Starring:
Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore, Sean Astin, Rob Schneider
Genre: Comedy
In Theaters: Feb 13th 2004

Sandler turns himself down a notch from most of his previous roles, delivering a pleasantly subdued performance bereft of his more ostentatious goof-ball paroxysms. Even the usually insufferable Rob Schneider lends a more palatable performance as Henry’s native pal and friendly slob, Ula. Perhaps this is because the usual allotment of gross-out and diminutive humor is reserved for Lucy’s steroid-pumping brother—which is a refreshingly unfamiliar role to see Sean Astin take on after his Oscar-worthy performance in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Ultimately though, the supreme strength of this film lies in the almost astonishing manner in which Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore seem to effortlessly meld on-screen; and it has everything to do with a sort of equitable star-quality that turns this not into another Sandler movie, but a Sandler/Barrymore movie.

Movie Grade: B

Synopsis:

Adam Sandler plays a man who falls in love with Lucy (Drew Barrymore), a woman with short-term memory loss. Therefore, Lucy never remembers Sandler and this proves to be a pain for him as he always has to gain her back every day.
