I treat my reviews with the same respect as anything else in life. You're lucky you're able to get me here and even that's not an achievement because I've got nothing else to do.
WB show, One Tree Hill, and his almost overnight stardom, audiences will no doubt be expecting Chad Michael Murray to deliver more on the big screen then he does every week on Tree Hill. As it turns out, unfortunately, he ends up spewing out the same wishy-washy performance and really fails to fill the silver screen which was disappointing.

To be honest, the only part of the movie I really enjoyed was the music. Apart from that, the movie was very straightforward and you find yourself sitting through the movie wondering if they are going to add anything new. In fact, I was kind of hoping that they would have Rhoda (Regina King), who is toted as Sam’s fairy Godmother simply because she is the only one who Fiona truly fears, conjure up some magical mice to serve as Sam’s coachman and horses that would bring her to the Halloween Dance. But, alas, that did not happen nor did anything remotely magical.

If this was to become a true to life Cinderella Story, I would have done at least three things differently. First of all, I would have increased the conflict. Everyone in this movie just allowed things to happen to them. There was hardly any reaction from the characters. I mean, what would you do if your father died and did not leave a will? Of course, in this day and age, every successful business owner would have a will as well as a lawyer looking over it. Why would anyone suspect that he was just too busy to write one up?

Secondly, I would have added some… how should I say this… culture to the cast. I’m tired of seeing blond bimbos always be the popular ones. Aren’t there ever any brunettes, maybe some Asians, Hispanics, or even African-Americans that can be the leader of the popularity pyramid? And what happened to the African-Americans, do they not exist in the valley? I believe Rhoda was the only one in the entire movie.

And finally, I would not have the movie take place in the most stereotypical portion of the country: the Valley, where plastic surgery and botox are served up as breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If you’re looking for a traditional story with a poor imitation Mean Girls touch, then A Cinderella Story is the film for you. However, don’t blame me if you walk out of the theater deeply disappointed because I tried to warn you. You just didn’t listen to me! It’s your money. I just wouldn’t waste it here.
