Accepted

I got an 820 on my SAT’s. That’s right, I didn’t study and I wrote my name on the test; correctly. You know where I got Accepted? Nowhere; cause I’m a fool and I waved good-bye to my future. Well, I was accepted into one school, but they take you in by default; so it was no accomplishment. I did ace my way out of Kingsborough Community College; in fact the Honor Roll even had my name.

Bartleby “B” Gaines ( Justin Long ) knows all about rejection; and now he needs to find a way to get into a college after all his institutions turned him down in a frown. So like any innovative teenager he derives a brilliant plan to make a college of his own.

The South Harmon Institute of Technology ( S.H.I.T ) becomes a smash hit for the rest of the rejects; as they make up their own classes teach their own curriculum and follow their own rules. They even design their own dorms as the possibilities are endless. That’s of course, once the preppy jocks in their strict university hear of such nonsense. That’s when we have drama.

It’s any college kid’s dream come true; it’s the school of acceptance that has a new way of doing things. It’s an interesting concept outside the obvious humor it creates; what is does is maybe challenge the education system. I always said there needed to be a revolution in education, but this probably won’t be the movie to set the trend.

It is funny and cute; however yet another formulated film that at times is quite predictable. It’s got edge and even presents some valid points on how school today stifles creativity.

My question is if college kids (and yes high school as well) are the intended audience then where are the boobies? Where is the sex going on in this hip radical institute of rebels? Where are the bong hits and the occasional meth binge?

It’s a bit of a softy; but beside the lame PG-13 material; it’s not bad. With the help of Lewis Black it’s a pretty funny cast; but I have seen funnier. It’s a fast paced film with good editing and not a lot of boring dialogue that so many of these clueless comedies possess. It gets to the point and within minutes we’ve reached the meat of the plot; and it’s a well thought out idea because they really explore the possibilities if this were all real.

Then the comedy has to become all inspiring as if the movie weren’t enough; now we have to touch the audiences’ heart and blah blah blah I didn’t rent a soap opera I want to laugh! Is this so hard of a concept? Stay within funny; save the soft crap for the Lifetime network. They get a real kick out of violins.

Overall, I am tough on comedies because there ...
