Charmed: The Complete First Season

ATTENTION: All you loyal Charmed fans out there -the wait is over! Season One on DVD is finally here! It’s your chance to watch the same exact twenty-two shows that were on TV but the bonus is now they are commercial free. And for all you Charmed fans who caught on around Season Four when Rose McGowan joined the cast, this is your chance to see it from the beginning - Shannen Doherty and all! Having only seen random scenes from random episodes before they were condensed into one super-duper package I have to admit that watching the episodes in their entirety bored me just as much as those fleeting “Where the hell is my remote?” moments. But still, since you’re here, I’ll walk you through it – they read a book, they get magical powers, they find out they are the “charmed” ones with the power of three and that’s where the excitement ends! Ooh, Aah. There are a few almost juicy secrets that do pop up in one episode or another but you’re going to have to suffer for yourself – my lips are sealed.

Prue (Shannen Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) are sisters who inherit powers handed down from generation to generation to be used only to protect the innocent. You know the people who get into trouble at the beginning of each episode and can only be saved by this amazing, awesome, a-ok trio. The only problem is no one ever told them this was going to happen so they have to deal with their new “gifts” themselves. Imagine that. Again, Ohh, Ahh. Each sister witch has a different power and if you want to see what they are and how they get them under control buy the DVD set and read the back of the first four discs. No need to watch the episodes, the synopses give it all away anyway. Or you can watch the last five minutes of each episode so you can hear the monotonous chanting, or rhyming spell, or whatever weak excuse they call magic that manages to save the day. Either way I say whatever floats your boat but I really encourage only viewing these discs if you need a sleep aid.

With that said, Disc Five is where it starts to get good. Well, remotely well. They go back in time, they come back to life, they find love, lose love, and finally get their powers under control. Let me just start with Episode 18, When Bad Warlocks Turn Good, when one of the hotties of all hotties guest stars. Michael Weatherly plays Brendan, a budding priest to be (Why do all the good-looking virtually perfect men all end up taking a vow off celibacy?) and at Prue’s adamant insistences the charmed ones protect him from some ...
