into a bunch of mini stories that don’t flow every well at all and none of which seem to fully develop by the time they end. It is also hard to identify the real struggle in the story because, even though becoming agents follows from beginning to end, it is divided into pieces from subplots dealing with thwarting the corporation, escaping the pet shop, reuniting, among several other side stories. There would normally be nothing wrong with a side story but there was just no flow between the stories to make it seem like a continuous theatrical film.
Don’t let the idea of a 3D movie persuade you into this one by any means, let other inevitably terrible movies like the forthcoming The Final Destination do that. The animation wasn’t very impressive in this one given what Disney has given us in the past. The actions scenes did have their moments but were ultimately just cheap imitation of the animations scenes in movies like Transformers. Also, the voice acting didn’t help the presentation of the film at all. Every line was delivered with a level of monotony that at times was actually shocking; yes, I’m talking to you Tracy Morgan!
Some people might be considering the “it’s a kid movie” excuse for this one but that one will get shot down quick. Not only am I a fan of kids movie I grew up with, but I also love recent kids movies like Wall-E or Up... It isn’t’ that I can’t sit down and laugh like at kid stuff, its just that being that I am not a kid I can tell the good from the bad kid stuff. G-Force without a doubt fall under the latter category. If you have young kids than thy will have a grand ol’ time with this but if you don’t, just to reiterate, don’t see it.
Movie Grade: D
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer brings his first 3-D film to the big screen with "G-Force," a comedy adventure about the latest evolution of a covert government program to train animals to work in espionage. Armed with the latest high-tech spy equipment, these highly trained guinea pigs discover that the fate of the world is in their paws. Tapped for the G-Force are guinea pigs Darwin (voice of Sam Rockwell), the squad leader determined to succeed at all costs; Blaster (voice of Tracy Morgan), an outrageous weapons expert with tons of attitude and a love for all things extreme; and Juarez (voice of Penelope Cruz), a sexy martial arts pro; plus the literal fly-on-the-wall reconnaissance expert, Mooch, and a star-nosed mole, Speckles (voice of Nicolas Cage), the computer and information specialist. Directed by two-time Oscar®-winning visual effects master Hoyt Yeatman—"G-Force" takes audiences on a high-octane thrill ride, proving once and for all that size really doesn't matter. |
