is its horrible beginning involving Monica Lewinsky jokes and Dempsey trying to look college-aged. It’s a feeble set up for the story to come. We see Hannah burn her hand on a coffee cup—cut to 10 years later and Tom’s rich because he invented cup collars. (Hannah should have asked for a cut of those profits.) Once that’s over the story gets down to fantasy-business.
At first, I didn’t know how I’d feel about Monaghan. Could she hack it as a rom-com leading lady? In the end, she succeeds because she’s a realistic beauty, not a cookie-cutter supermodel. Her youthful face radiates charm. She’s plays Hannah as intellectual but also sweet and vulnerable.
Random thought: As much as I love Patrick Dempsey, I somehow always find him exceedingly more attractive in his movie roles than I do on Grey’s Anatomy. And it’s not just me; my sister backs up this claim. Maybe it’s the way his character fawns over Meredith Grey, or maybe he just doesn’t stand out as much among the Alex Karevs and the McSteamys. Discuss.
Anywho…
Harmless, happy and a little bit sappy—Made of Honor’s just plain cute. It won’t penetrate Iron Man’s armor at the box office, but it’s a happy ending love story that’ll be a fun girls night in when it comes to DVD.
