Last year we were lucky enough to catch the preview presentation for Push at San Diego Comic Con which included several scenes from the film and the trailer. More impressive than that was the panel of actors that followed including one of my personal favorites working today, Chris Evans. After that I was super excited to see the finished product a few months later when we got back to New York. Some how I managed to miss all of the press screenings and ended up not seeing it at all until just now on Bluray; and man do I wish I had experienced this one on the big screen!
Push is everything I’ve been asking for lately in a movie – it’s original, smart, inventive, has a killer cast and a plot like that keeps you guessing from start to finish. I love the fact that I had no idea how the characters were going to escape the fate that is claimed to be so certain at the beginning. The ending that they do finally reach, while clearly leaving it open for more films, doesn’t have a cheesy ‘here comes the predictable sequel’ wink to the audience. There’s something that’s darker and more X-Files unexplained about it all that adds a great air of mystery to the whole thing and keeps us from expecting them to eventually come out in one piece tight jumpsuits to fight crime in.
The plot is full of twists and turns and misdirection that, as I said, will keep you guessing as to who is friend or foe and what people’s true motivations are throughout. One thing that I can guarantee is that following along on this awesome ride will keep your eyes glued to the screen and your heart racing!
The cast here is outstanding. The now ruggedly gorgeous Chris Evans plays our lead as a ‘Mover’ who possesses the power of telekinesis and he is thrown into this world of intrigue by the pleas of the growing-up-way-too-fast-but-very-well Dakota Fanning who is a watcher that has seen an all too dismal future ahead for them all. The two pair up in an attempt to rescue a woman whose ultimate fate could end all of their lives played by the beautiful Camilla Belle. Our lead baddie is played by ...
