The Matrix Revolutions is the final chapter to the Matrix Trilogy and it definitely delivers!! It’s exactly what we’ve all been waiting with baited breath for since our eyes were first opened to the Matrix in 1999. I attended the press screening for Revolutions at the Loews Theater on 68th & Bway and viewed this filmmaking bonanza on their magnificent IMAX DMR screen. I have to admit, my first assessment to how it concluded was… well…‘interesting… very, very interesting’. I know this may ring of a Spock-like response but I am putting it very mildly when I tell you that I was indeed overwhelmingly impressed!!
However, and unfortunately, it is the end to a truly heartwarming and very complex saga; a saga that reaches epic proportions which forces you to mentally digest everything in this film. It leaves you wondering, pondering, and contemplating so many things just so that you can attempt to make sense of everything that jumps at you from the screen (especially, if you view this film on the vividly, impressive IMAX DMR screen- hint-hint!). Revolutions keeps you guessing to the very last second as to who will ultimately win this war and thus, decide the fate of Zion and the machine controlled Matrix. Will the Machines, Agent Smith, or the One, Neo be the victor; I’m not saying!
There are many reasons why I believe all should run (and I do mean run!) to see this film. First, the storyline of Revolutions picks up pretty much where Reloaded left off. All remaining crew outside the city of Zion are still aboard Captain Roland’s ship, the Mjolnir. Neo is still in a would-be coma and the ship’s crew is trying to ‘find’ him. Bane, the ship’s crewmember, is also still in a coma but unbeknownst to the crew; his body has been inhabited by the out of control Agent Smith. Ironically enough, the word bane literally means cause of death or ruin. Hmmmm…those Wachowskis!!
Agent’s Smith’s character has graduated to new heights in this film while conversely, Morpheus’ character as the strong leader has leveled off to a seemingly more docile status. Niobe (played very convincingly by Jada Pinkett-Smith) actually holds it down in Revolutions. She’s tough, smart, and just plain bold! As strange as that sounds, it works!
Zion is now faced with inevitable destruction (hmmm, should I have said that??): the machines (aka the Sentinels) have pledged full scale war against their underground city and Agent’s Smith’s duplicated selves have basically dominated the entire human- populated world in the Matrix. There is now truly nowhere to run… nowhere to hide. Zion must take a stand and everyone must fight or… they will die.
In addition, Morpheus, Trinity, and Seraph are sent on a mission by the Oracle to find Neo or all will be lost for Zion. They must face the nefarious, know-it-all Merovingian and his evil subordinates, including the twisted Trainman at his lair, Club Hell in order to find their lost hero. ...
