more different; from the pragmatist lawyer played by Braugher to the town crazy lady expertly played by Marcia Gay Harden and everyone in between it’s immediately obvious that the only thing these people have in common is their precarious situation. As tensions rise and uncertainty escalates, arguments ensue, sides are taken, and ultimately the group discovers that the greatest danger to their survival is not the ominous enemy outside, but their own lose of humanity in the face of overwhelming fear.

This exploration of the human condition is what makes this such an amazing film. Yes, it’s scary. There are crazy man eating tentacles and fearsome CGI’d bugs that will make you jump out of your seat, but the heart of this film is a very real, very human story. And without giving anything away, the outcome is not what you’d expect. Even for people who have already read the novella, I can assure you it ends very differently in the film version and it is quite possibly one of the best endings I’ve ever seen in a Hollywood wide release film.

Now, I’ve already said too much so I’ll leave you with one last piece of advice. Go see this movie now! Don’t wait, because the longer you wait the greater the chance of someone, like some other pesky reviewer, ruining the ending for you!

Movie Grade: A

Synopsis:

Three-time Oscar®-nominee Frank Darabont ("The Green Mile," "The Shawshank Redemption") reunites with horror-master Stephen King to write and direct this chilling adaptation of the author's original short story. Following a violent thunderstorm, artist David Drayton and a small town community come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist. Local rumors point to an experiment called the 'The Arrowhead Project' conducted at a nearby top-secret military base, but questions as to the origins of the deadly vapor are secondary to the group's overall chances for survival. Retreating to a local supermarket, Drayton and the survivors must face-off against each other before taking a united stand against an enemy they cannot even see!
