great comedic support, particularly a riotously funny sequence involving Cox and the Beatles during a spiritual retreat in India.

The DVD’s picture quality is in the 2:35:1 anamorphic widescreen aspect ratio, with the sound quality in Dolby Digital Surround 5.1. The DVD features the movie in both its original cut and a two-hour “director’s cut”, the latter ultimately unnecessary. This 2 Disc Unrated Edition is also packed with plenty of special features.

Disc 1’s first feature is audio commentary with director Jake Kasdan, producer Judd Apatow, actor John C Reilly, and executive producer Lew Morton, which is your typical mix of the humorous and informative. “The Real Dewey Cox” is a hilarious mock-biography of the main character and his impact on music, including interviews with real-life guitar-playing performers like Lyle Lovett and Sheryl Crow.

“Line-O-Rama” is a mixture of outtakes and alternate improvised dialogue filmed. “The Music Of Walk Hard” is a featurette that discusses the inspirations for the various songs performed in the film.

“Full Song Performances” contain eight (sixteen in the two-disc edition) individual showings of all the performances in the film, which is worthwhile for fans of the musical numbers. There are also four (nine in the two-disc edition) deleted and extended scenes, which each contain plenty of additional funny tidbits.

Disc 2 contains more amusing bits such as a commercial for “Cox Sausage”, complete with outtakes, the performance of a Christmas song from Cox, the featurette “Bull On The Loose”, and a featurette called “Tiler Nilson: A Cockumentary”, the last of which has to be seen to be believed. There are also demos of the various songs in the film, a behind-the-scenes featurette “The Making Of Walk Hard”, and last but not least, the featurette “The Last Word With John Hodgman” which interviews John C Reilly in character as Dewey.

All in all, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is too inconsistent and unwieldy at times as a comedy to match the genuinely funny heights of Apatow’s own brilliant films or Superbad. However, it’s inarguably one of the funniest and most delightful spoof films in years, due to the fantastic cast, particularly Reilly, and the absurd and often hilarious poking at the rock n’ roll lifestyle.
