X – Men 3: The Last Stand
Review By: Mike Masri

This movie is called X-Men: The Last Stand because by the time the credits were rolling I couldn't stand to watch them butcher anymore of the great comic story I've come to love.
I'm going to get straight to the point with this one. The movie was fine as a movie and movie fans with enjoy it, but comic fans will be appalled. Unlike the first two X-Men movies, which tried to stay true to the characters and story this third and final installment decided to break all the rules and do their own thing.
The plot itself was fine for a movie and for the last time I'm going to remind everyone that it was nothing like the comic book.
After Warren Worthington II (Michael Murphy) discovers his son, Warren Worthington III/Angel (Ben Foster) is a mutant he puts his resources into finding a cure for the mutant gene. Once the cure has been perfected the political turmoil ensues. The government is undecided whether the use of the cure on hostile mutants is allowed. Mutant lovers, like many of the X-Men feel it's insane to have a cure, since being a mutant isn't a disease. Finally, Magneto (Ian McKellen) feels the need to control the cure, since it can sap him and his Brotherhood of Evil Mutants of their powers.
While all this is going on there is an even greater threat in the world. Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) has been resurrected as the highly volatile Phoenix. As the Phoenix she acts completely on emotion and instinct without regard for life, which combined with being the most powerful mutant, makes her the most dangerous thing in the world.
The two stories meet by the end of the film for one final showdown between good and evil… The Last Stand.
I'll start off praising the good parts of the film first, since I feel like till now it's been mostly bashing. The movie has a variety of parts that will make you laugh, it's far from a comedy but Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) can make you chuckle. The special effects and mutants were great in the film. One of my favorite parts is seeing the fire and ice face-off between Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) and Pyro (Aaron Stanford). Also let's just say the way Phoenix kills people is as badass as you ...
