The venerable Frank Miller was on hand for the Warner Home Video panel celebrating the upcoming release of 300. While the focus was on 300, Frank talked a little bit about the projects he's working on now, namely the status of the sequel to his cult classic Sin City, and his progress on The Spirit, an adaptation of the popular Will Eisner comic.
Sounding rather frustrated, he told us that Sin City 2 (and a possible #3) have been delayed "for some reason" because of the Weinsteins, who are producing the flick. Supposedly the script is an adaptation of the "A Dame to Kill For" storyline, and Johnny Depp and Rachel Weisz are rumored to join the production along with most of the cast of the original. Miller's "raring to go" on Sin City 2, but unfortunately, they're still hung up on some important points. He didn't elaborate on what those points might be.

While he's waiting to get started on Sin City 2, Miller said he's been working very hard to adapt Will Eisner's The Spirit. He pledged to stay true to the source material, much like Zack Snyder stayed true to his on 300. He said, "[Eisner] was a master of the short story," and favorably compared him to the famous noir writer Dashiell Hammett. Of his commitment to the project, Miller said, "I want to do him proud.... I've been writing every word of it myself and storyboarding every frame. This is a real work of love, and it's become my life completely." So Sin City 2 can wait.
