After seeing the first six completed episodes of Chuck's second season, NBC was so encouraged by the results that they immediately rewarded the show with a back nine pickup.
That means that instead of just green-lighting the first 13 episodes and waiting for ratings results before ordering the remaining nine, as is customary (and as is the case with NBC's other sophomore shows Life and Lipstick Jungle), Chuck is now all but assured to have a full 22-episode season.
It also means that the first six episodes are probably really good.
"It's an incredible show of faith by NBC and so amazingly nice to get based on the work alone," Schwartz told Variety, which added that "Peacock execs said they were pleased with the first six episodes in 'Chuck's' second season and wanted to keep the momentum going."
The action-comedy starring Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, and Adam Baldwin will premiere its second season on September 29th. The first season received mild but consistent ratings in the 8-9 million viewer range and benefited from plenty of buzz, but was cut short because of the writers strike. |
