With the TV networks announcing their schedules next year, many shows are starting to get the ax, while a few have been handed temporary reprieves. The latest news:

-CBS has canceled Shark, the James Woods drama that averaged 10.3 million viewers. That's usually an enviable number, but many of CBS's other dramas perform better, and the show had low ratings in the coveted 18-49 demographic.

-Less surprising: Moonlight, the vampire detective show that only had about 7-8 million weekly viewers, has also been canceled by CBS. The show had some ardent fans but went through numerous creative changes even more debuting and was probably seen as more trouble than it was worth.

-CBS will renew two other shows that were on the bubble, The Unit and The New Adventures of Old Christine.

-Reaper has been renewed by the CW. While the pilot garnered praise from critics, the show lost buzz during the rest of its season and ratings were nothing to write home about (a bit above 2 million viewers, par for the course for the CW), so the renewal is a bit of surprise. Like Moonlight, though, the show has very vocal fans.

-ABC has axed Miss Guided, Men in Trees, and October Road. The network's sole new drama this fall will be Life on Mars, the long-discussed adaptation of a popular BBC show about a cop who travels back in time to the '70s after getting hit by a car.
