First, Shia LaBeouf was cast. Then he publicly stated that that was only a rumor. Then Cate Blanchett was cast. Well...not quite.
As it currently stands, Blanchett is "in negotiations" for the part, but nothing has been finalized. There is, however, still quite a good chance of her being cast; actors often let news of their casting slip before the contracts are signed.
As for LaBeouf, according to Dark Horizons, "various sources" are sticking to their story that he has indeed been cast. If so, his public denial may have been simply to ward off the press before a formal announcement.
We'll all find out soon, I suppose, as the movie is supposed to begin filming this year. The newest casting rumor, by the way, is Gong Li, although the only basis of that is news that she's considering an offer for a role in "a big-budget Hollywood film". |
