We reported on the Bad Lieutenant remake all the way back in August of 2007, and at that point it sounded like it was destined to become a direct-to-DVD movie that would soon end up in the $5 bin. Turns out that not only will it be a higher-profile theatrical release, it's attracted the likes of Nicolas Cage and director Werner Herzog.
The original, NC-17 flick starred Harvey Kietel as a corrupt New York City cop who did a lot of drugs, had a lot of sex, and other things of that nature.
Production is set to start in late summer. Herzog is best known as of late for Rescue Dawn and the documentary Grizzly Man; Cage's last two flicks were the uber-hit National Treasure 2 and the uber-flop Next. |
