Obviously this is great news for my personal favorite Into the Wild - it nabbed one nomination in every category except for Actress. Also getting a boost was the left-field 3:10 to Yuma Ensemble nomination, No Country for Old Men, and American Gangster - although neither Washington or Crowe was singled out, the Ensemble nomination means the film has support behind it.

The biggest surprises were in the Best Actor category - I wasn't expecting Hirsch or Mortensen to show up, and I doubt Gosling will end up nominated for another Oscar. He's a popular guy, but Lars and the Real Girl was barely seen. I could easily see Denzel Washington take his place, but the exclusion of Johnny Depp - or any Sweeney Todd love at all - is quite telling. Clooney and Day-Lewis are both locked in at this point, and I'd love it if Hirsch and Mortensen made it as well.

Best Actress was notable only in that it left out Amy Adams, who was expected to get the popular vote for Enchanted. This could still happen, given the Academy's fondness for young, pretty females, but Angelina Jolie's powerhouse performance from A Mighty Heart apparently found enough love with SAG, so I wouldn't be surprised if this category had a 5-for-5 match-up.

Supporting Actor continues to be a fight between Affleck and Bardem. Jones making the list is a surprise (too bad Brolin didn't as well). The two top non-nominated contenders are Philip Seymour Hoffman for Charlie Wilson's War and Paul Dano for There Will Be Blood; if either of them make it, Jones and Holbrook are the most vulnerable. Of course, if the Academy doesn't nominate Holbrook they have no soul, but I
