Rogue Pictures at Comic-Con: Balls of Fury, Speedman linked to Captain America, & more

This morning was Rogue Pictures' turn at Comic-Con to unveil some of their upcoming lineup of films. A division of Focus Features aimed at making effective and efficient genre films, the studio has given us in the past such films as Shaun of the Dead and Assault on Precinct 13. This year they were here hawking three upcoming releases, all of which sound pretty cool, if for very different reasons.

The first up was Balls of Fury, directed by Ben Garant, a veteran of Comedy Central's Reno: 911! He described the flick as the best '80s-style kung-fu ping-pong film of the year, and joining him onstage was star Dan Fogler and fellow Reno: 911! castmate Thomas Lennon, the latter of whom was dressed in costume:





They commenced with a Q&A with the audience, most of which consisted of them constantly calling each other "a little gay" and openly gaping at one of the few girls in the entire convention center:



Still, once it got around time to role the exclusive clip from the film, it didn't disappoint: Christopher Walken is the major villain in the role, some kind of strange, vaguely Asian leader of the pivotal sudden death ping-pong tournament, and as always, he's hilarious. Fogler, who's mostly new to audiences and will also appear in this year's Good Luck Chuck, also looked great (and during the panel showed off a spot-on Walken impression). Also making an appearance was castmate James Hong, a surprisingly hilarious guy, best known (at least in Comic-Con's geek circles) as Lo Pan in Big Trouble in Little China.

Overall I got the impression that Balls of Fury could be one of those "so crazy, it just might work" successes...or it could bomb. We'll find out late August.

Next up was the horror thriller The Strangers, and I'm a bit torn about it. On the one hand, it can be applauded for its minimalist, bare-bones style horror plot: a couple (Scott Speedman and Liv Tyler) are attacked in their
