It was only the end of January when a rumor swirled that Ryan Gosling would play Jack Ryan in a new movie directed by Fernando Meirelles. Now Variety reports that a Jack Ryan revival will happen, but will be under the guidance of Spider-Man director Sam Raimi.
Gosling can still be considered in the running for the role, but any casting seems a bit far off and he wasn't mentioned in the article.
Ryan is the popular Tom Clancy character who has been played by Alec Baldwin (in The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger), and Ben Affleck (in The Sum of All Fears).
The current plan is to showcase a younger version of the character, but have the films set in the present. Clancy is currently working on a new Ryan novel, but Raimi and the producers haven't yet decided to use a book or create an original story. |
