Here's a neat little tidbit for our NYC readers...the Lower East Side Sunshine Cinema is hosting a series of midnight movies every Friday and Saturday nights through July, and the line-up looks terrific.
The Shining kicks off the run with three shows this weekend. On May 30-31 is Hitchcock's masterpiece To Catch a Thief; July 4-5 is The NeverEnding Story. In between are plenty of solid choices as well, ranging from Klute to...well, to a Grease sing-along.
I recently caught a screening of The Spy Who Loved Me, and it reminded me how terrific it is to see old movies on the big screen sometimes. Imagining Jack Nicholson's taking down the bathroom door with the ax in The Shining, thirty plus feet tall, is a beautiful thought.
You can check out the lineup and more info at landmarktheatres.com; if you don't live in New York, you should seek out midnight screenings at independent theaters near you. It beats sitting around or wasting $50 at a bar. |
