United Artist and MGM's Tom Cruise vehicle Valkyrie has been pushed back from June 27th to October 3rd in order to give director Bryan Singer enough time to finish the project.
The fall date will position the film as a potential Oscar candidate, although skepticism from the trailer released last month - featuring Cruise, as the Nazi leader of the plot to assassinate Hitler, speaking in a very American accent - may lead some to assume the studios don't trust it enough as a major summer release.
Variety points out that the move is probably the reason Universal recently moved its action-thriller Wanted, starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie, from March to June 27th. |
