Babylon A.D., a Vin Diesel-led sci-fi thriller debuting Stateside on August 29th, has apparently been re-cut down to a slim ninety minutes for U.S. and U.K. audiences. This would hardly garner much attention normally, but the original cut was a whopping 160 minutes - 2 hours and 40 minutes long, a full 70 minutes longer.
The long cut, which is said to be more dramatic and contemplative, and rated R, will still play in most of Europe, so expect to be able to see it on DVD down the road. The shorter cut, mandated by 20th Century Fox, strips it down to a simpler PG-13 action movie.
Another story of an evil studio ruining a director's vision? Maybe...but honestly, who really wants to see a 2 hour and 40 minute Vin Diesel movie? |
