To the surprise of many, 21 landed in the top spot again this weekend as Leatherheads bowed to a less-than-expected $13.5 million. Nim's Island scored a solid $13.3 by comparison - and since these are only Sunday estimates, it's possible that the two newbies could swap places by the time final numbers are released tonight. The other new release, The Ruins, stumbled a bit with a generic ad campaign and $7.8 million. The top ten estimates, in millions:

#TitleWeekendTotal
1. 2115.146.5
2. Leatherheads13.513.5
10. Nim's Island13.313.3
4. Horton Hears a Who!9.1131.1
5. The Ruins7.87.8
6. Superhero Movie5.416.9
7. Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns3.537.8
8. Drillbit Taylor3.525.6
9. Shutter2.923.2
10. 10,000 B.C.2.889.3

Aside from previews attached to Horton Hears a Who, Nim's Island had a quiet marketing push, so its nearly identical gross to the much louder Leatherheads is admirable. George Clooney beat the $10.4 million opening of his last star vehicle, Michael Clayton, although the openings of both movies underline the truth that he's not as big a draw in the rest of the country as he is in L.A.

The holdovers didn't do much of interest. Showing the best legs was the critically-trashed Drillbit Taylor, which dipped only 39% to $3.5 million and a $25.6 million total. It should top out with around $35 million. Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns, on the other hand, continued to plummet, losing over half of its audience the second weekend in a row.

Among limited releases, Martin Scorsese's Rolling Stones concert film Shine a Light nabbed $1.5 million from 276 theaters, including a number of IMAX screens, for a $5,475 per-theater average. My Blueberry Nights opened in just six theaters and managed $73,742 for an impressive $12,290 average.
