Wild Hogs gave critics the finger with its definitive and better-than-expected #1 opening this weekend. It made an estimated 38 million dollars this weekend, making it the second-highest opening of 2007 so far after Ghost Rider.
Runner-up Zodiac grossed an estimated 13.1 million, more along the lines of director David Fincher's Fight Club ($11 million opening) than Panic Room ($30 million opening). The other new release, Craig Brewer's Black Snake Moan, made 4 million, underwhelming even if you take into consideration its low theater count.
In general, the holdovers held up well, all dropping by about 40%. The exceptions were the very mediocre performer The Number 23, which dropped by a bit more than half, and Reno 911!: Miami, which fell 64%.
