Iron Man easily took the #1 spot for the second week in a row as Speed Racer crashed and burned to become the first official flop of the summer. What Happens in Vegas actually managed a #2 debut with $20.2 million, while Speed Racer made only $18.6, or about half of what the studio was praying for. Adding insult to injury, yesterday's estimates incorrectly placed the film at just over $20 million, a little ahead of Vegas. A third place debut is nothing short of disastrous for the $125 million-budgeted flick. The top ten official numbers, in millions:

#TitleWeekendTotal
1. Iron Man51.2177.8
2. What Happens in Vegas20.220.2
3. Speed Racer18.618.6
4. Made of Honor8.126.8
5. Baby Mama6.240.8
6. Forgetting Sarah Marshall3.850.8
7. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay3.130.7
8. The Forbidden Kingdom2.248.5
9. Nim's Island1.544.4
10. Prom Night1.042.8

Iron Man has proved in its second weekend to be everything that Speed Racer isn't. The superhero flick has performed like a summer champ, grabbing $178 million in its first ten days. It dropped by only 47% - impressive for a superhero film with such a massive opening.

Also successful is What Happened in Vegas - the chick flick scored a better opening than last week's Made of Honor as well as last month's Forgetting Sarah Marshall. However, competition-wise, the summer is an unforgiving place, so a final total will have to be judged by how well the film holds up next week.

The rest of the top ten simply slid down a few notches, staying in the same order it was in last weekend. In 11th place was David Mamet's Redbelt with $1.0 million, which expanded to a surprisingly wide 1,379 theaters this weekend after one week of limited play, but scored an atrocious $734 per-theater average.
