"She's Lego Perfect!"
Elizabeth Banks is best known for her roles in movie like Seabiscuit, Pitch Perfect, and The Hunger Games movies. Now the 39 year-old takes a foray into voice acting with the film The Lego Movie.
The film tells the tale of ordinary Lego citizen Emmett, played by Chris Pratt, who is a chosen one known as ‘The Special’ who must save the world from the villainous Lord Business, played by Will Ferrell. Banks plays Wyldstyle, one of the Master Builders Emmett encounters on his journey. She talks about her earliest memories of playing Lego blocks.
“My earliest memory of Lego involves grabbing them from my sister, like ‘No, they’re mine, I’m playing with them now,’” Elizabeth recalls, “I was very bossy about it. My journey now is I have two young sons.”
“I like to build things,” she adds, “I can admit this about myself. I’ll spend time with my sons on the floor and I’ll build something that I think is cool. I present it to them, and they immediately smash it. That’s part of their process. Mine is to feel proud of it and they just literally smash it.”
Elizabeth was asked if she was able to come up with a backstory for Wyldstyle.
“I love that Wyldstyle wanted to feel special in her life and isn’t quite sure what her place in the world is,” she explains, “Her real name is Lucy. Wyldstyle, I think, is the personality she takes on so she can date Batman personally, dark and brooding and like hoodies and cool, a ‘too cool for school’ kind of thing.”
“Over the course of the movie, he really realizes that he’s a narcissistic jerk, that she can do better, and I love that,” Banks adds, “She falls in love. Wyldstyle’s got a lot going on actually.”
Banks was asked what it was like to not have to wear hair and makeup and simply do her acting in a recording booth.
“Well, the best thing honestly

“You can’t even wear a watch that goes tick, tick, tick, because they hear everything and then, also, I like to be grounded and bounce around and jump around,” Elizabeth continues, “It’s an action movie, so we have to vocalize all the movement, so it’s a really good workout actually.”
Elizabeth was also asked if she felt there was any connection between playing Wyldstyle and her Hunger Games character Effie Trinket.
“They both have really great hair and cool costume changes,” Banks says.
Banks was asked about the experience of singing the movie’s theme song “Everything Is Wonderful”.
“A million times,” Elizabeth says, “It was horrible. It sounds like a cat being killed. I was really upset.”
