Chris Evans has been pegged as the next big thing. He’s good looking, exudes that Matt Damon/Ben Affleck humble vibe (especially since he’s from Mass) and is unthreatening to his pre-teen fan base. Genuinely funny in Not Another Teen Movie was the catalyst for catapulting this young up and coming star and now he is not only in the latest thriller, Cellular but is going to be an action hero in the upcoming feature film, The Fantastic Four. We spoke with the hyped up young actor about his recent success and how he stays grounded.

When asked about his feelings towards his recent fame, Chris shrugs it off, saying, ” I keep telling everyone I can count on one hand the amount of times that I’ve been recognized. Anonymity has never left my side….it just doesn’t seem to make sense to me. I still feel like I fight for every audition I get. I just don’t feel like a movie star or a celebrity but a kid that gets to act in movies.”

Chris also manages to keep himself in check by staying away from the LA scene, as he tells us, “I feel like I surround myself with good grounded people. I should be able to say sane.” Continuing his thought, Evans says, ” It’s easy to get lost and wrapped up in this industry and lose sight of things and perspective. So it’s nice to go home and be reminded you’re a geek and it’s great and I never want to lose that. My friends from home really don’t care. I feel like I’ll have people less like that as I get older.”

Chris’ fight to the top of the acting chain started at a young age. He went to college and took a stand one summer: “I interned in the city

junior going into senior year. We (my parents) wrote a lot of letters to casting offices and I moved to Brooklyn and set up actors for auditions, but by the end, I was friends with some of the agents and they let me come read for them and luckily one signed me. But, I had to finish senior year in Massachusetts. I graduated early in my senior year and went back to New York and got the same internship and got a pilot in march which was picked up, which was a pure shot of luck. I have so many good actor friends who don’t work…it’s just did you get lucky that day and I got lucky and that’s what took me to LA.”

When Chris got the part in cellular he was thrilled: “I remember the first thing I did…I was ecstatic. I was so happy, I read the script a year prior and I met with and it got put on hold and then they called me when I was working on something in New York and they said they were going to test eight guys and I was one of them. I’ve realized in LA as an actor no one is better than anyone else, some days you have a bad audition and I remember walking out of this audition feeling really good. But It was just like walking a tight rope. I got the call on my birthday which was pretty cool.”

Chris discusses the factor of plausibility in these suspenseful action films, especially Cellular: “If you are one of those people who likes to go to the movies and nitpick you will shred us! Just try and enjoy the ride. Even watching it, I was like, Chris, why would you not just do this? But it’s a movie.”

Chris will most likely be recognized in future times to come, as he will be starring in the upcoming big budget film, The

Fantastic Four
, co-starring Jessica Alba and Michael Chiklis. Chris is still in awe that he was offered a role this coveted: “I’ve never been a part of anything this big…’cause everyone else seems to be handling it just fine but I cant believe it. They brought the Play Station guys up here last week and they said they were going to show us the video games!

Chris would love to live in Boston, stay home and rent movies and drive a mediocre car. He’s the all-American guy who loves his high school and his home town. He vows to stay grounded. Right now, he’s just looking forward to relaxing: “There’s nothing better than the day you wrap a project and chill out for a month. It’s the best feeling.”
