First thing's first. Go see The Hurt Locker. Check your local art house cinemas, search for a screening within 100 miles, and get in your car. When you're done with that, come back and read the rest of this article. You can check out my review of the film here.

How was the movie? Awesome right? Jeremy Renner was friggin brilliant right? Now that the context is all there, I'll give you a bit of background on the following quote. It seems as though George Miller has been talking about a new Mad Max movie for decades now. Fury Road, the next entry into the popular Mel Gibson starring franchise, had already begun to build sets and collect together props before it got itself put on indefinite hold. A video game was in the works that would supposedly continue the story with a Mel Gibson sound-a-like providing the voice. Recently, however, all has been quiet on the Miller front.

Now the Modesto Bee spoke with The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner, who talked about his upcoming plans and gave up this: “I’m also fighting to do the new Mad Max film with George Miller. That might be next summer. I’m screen-testing and meeting George Miller.” Will he replace Mel Gibson in the iconic role? Will the new film just be another story in the same universe? Will any of this actually happen? Your guess is as good as mine.
