Epic Movie
We've seen a series of Scary Movie's, we even received the date version, so what's next for the genre of spoofs had to be something new, something grand, something"¦ well, epic.
There have been plenty of huge, high grossing movies over the past few years, films that could only be made in an age where C.G.I looks better and cooler often times than real life. So a film that tries to take the best of all these and give the comedic perspective has to be epic itself, but sadly, with a cast full of no names it's already off to a bad start.
Kal Penn, Crispin Glover, and Jennifer Coolidge make up part of the ensemble with a mix of other funny actors. The plot deals with four orphans each receiving a golden ticket to enter the bizarre world of Willy Wonka and his twisted factory filled with mulit-sized dwarfs and a river of sewage and chocolate.
Once Wonka goes bizerk which doesn't take too long, the four find themselves hiding only to soon discover a closet which leads them into the rest of the film, an adult version of Narnia with a crazy set of more characters.
After that I was lost due to my lack of Narnia knowledge, and the plot itself is useless anyways so why am I still trying?
Now, maybe my problem was that I'm not a fan of too much that is epic, so a lot of the themes puzzled me. The Chronicles of Narnia was basically the center joke of this film, and I hadn't yet seen it. I went into this thinking I would see more Batman, SuperMan and other men movies with more general household themes for a more universal reaction.
Instead this spoof was all over the place, it even went into a five minute montage ripping on MTV's Cribs which I have no clue as to why that was considered epic. There were plenty more montages that made no sense and just weren't funny anyway. The fact that it calls itself an epic movie to me is the real joke, and that really isn't funny.
This idea was actually very good, and it should have taken its time for a more noticeable cast with more understood themes it's making fun of. The fact that this Narnia flick was the center joke blew my mind, and I understand plenty of people saw it but it is still too new a film for epic consideration. I guess King Kong never made the cut either.
So you have a movie that really seems clueless what to joke on, and when you have a montage have it make sense rather than spoofing on random ideas. Apparently Nacho Libre and Borat are epic, so try not making fun of comedies
This film was a cartoon like all the Naked Gun films, so in that mindset it's quite easy to watch. It is hard to resist these; funny or not, the curiosity on what they will goof on next is the thrill of a film like such. They are always fun to see our favorite stars being ripped on and make film in general seem not as serious as it's put out to be. If anything when these movies are released its more of a summary on what's the new mainstream flick, and how they will tie them all together into one gigantic funny plot.
The problem is, they haven't been too funny. With Date Movie at least it stuck to the theme, but it was still a disaster in my eyes. And something epic should have really taken the time to plot out what is actually epic, instead of just rushing into a cluster of physical comedy. It was a great disappointment for the most part, but with that said I was still able to laugh at some things.

Synopsis:
The twisted minds of two of the six writers of “Scary Movie” tackle the biggest mega-blockbusters of all time in “Epic Movie.” The story centers on four not-so-young orphans: one raised by a curator at the Louvre (where an albino assassin lurks), another a refugee from Mexican “libre” wrestling, the third a recent victim of snakes on her plane, and the fourth a “normal” resident of a mutant “X”-community. The hapless quartet visits a chocolate factory, where they stumble into an enchanted wardrobe that transports them to the land of Gnarnia (with a “G”). There they meet a flamboyant pirate captain and earnest students of wizardry "” and join forces with, among others, a wise-but-horny lion to defeat the evil White Bitch of Gnarnia.
