It's all about life's endless possibilities. Whether you're talking about the television version or the new movie, Sex and the City is a story entirely about hope; hope of finding that perfect relationship, the perfect job, a perfect Manhattan apartment"¦ basically finding your fairytale 'happily ever after.' And for the viewer there's an added something to strive for; finding the perfect group of friends to help you on your journey.

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) are four New York women who've been tackling these trials and tribulations together for all to see for the last ten years. If you're one of the very few people left in the world that isn't familiar with these gals let me quickly bring you up to speed.

Bradshaw is the writer of a sex column called, you guessed it, Sex and the City in the New York Star Newspaper. After years of rehashing her relationship woes and torrid sex-capades on a weekly basis, Carrie published a novel based on those tales and has since become a highly respected author with several books to her name and is even more infamous for her love of true New York living and over priced designer shoes. Samantha Jones owns her own PR firm and her success in business is matched only by her success at bedding practically every eligible bachelor in the Tri-State. Miranda is a partner at a prestigious law firm who had an unplanned son named Brady with her on again-off again, now husband, bartender Steve (David Eigenberg). And finally Charlotte is the Upper East Side princess at first the perfectly poised wasp, now a converted Jew married to her former divorce attorney Harry Goldbloth (Evan Handler) and adoptive mother of a little Chinese girl named Lily (twins Alexandra and Parker Fong).

How this power foursome actually came together remains a mystery but what is not left to the imagination is how deeply they all care for each other. From boyfriends and break-ups to weddings and funerals the only certainty throughout it all was that they were always there for each other. It's an uncommon sisterhood that they share and I mean that both in reality and in fiction. It's incredibly rare to see this type of relationship so clearly defined and well drawn. Watching them always give me hope for the friendships I

encounter in life.

Some will speculate that the other three girls are all actually just parts of Carrie; Samantha the youthful sex crazed side, Miranda the analytical, intelligent side and Charolette the conservative nurturing side. You can't argue that if it were true these four ladies combined would make the perfect woman!

But I digress…back to The Movie! The film picks up four years after the six season long HBO series ended and we find everyone basically where they were when we left them; with the exception of Samantha who has moved to LA with her boyfriend and number one client underwear model sensation turned movie star, Smith Jarred (Jason Lewis).

Talk about making a film version of this story was rampant back in 04 when the series first ended and rumors were flying around in all sorts of directions about why it wasn't getting made. When star and executive producer Parker finally said it was time the kinks were ironed out and creator Michael Patrick King locked himself away and wrote one hell of a screenplay! The challenges of what story to tell in the movie version were just the tip of the ice berg for this reunited creative team. They had to find a way to do what they had been doing for years, but in a grander scale worthy of the larger canvas they would be playing on "” and they achieved it!

I've totally abused my press power for this one and have actually now seen it twice and I came away each time thinking how great it was to spend time with these old friends of mine. In fact, while some might say the almost two and a half hour running time might be a bit excessive, I could have definitely sat there for at least another half hour before ever looking at my watch.

The big question on everyone's minds is does this movie succeed on both levels; as something fans will relish and also as a movie that can stand on its own for the uninitiated. I hate that last requirement. I'm not saying it fails to do it, but let's be frank; I don't really care if it does. If you are someone who doesn't know the rich back story that was created in this world then there is no way you will ever appreciate it as much as those who do and that's OK. Too often long running shows or film series are judged 'unsuccessful' because they don't speak to that 'cross over' audience. Sometimes it's enough that it more than satisfies the people that it is made for. Whether or not random boyfriend who gets dragged to the theater enjoys it is inconsequential.

I'm not going to go into specific plot summary here because I think the best thing about watching it is being surprised by some of

the twists and turns; assuming there are any left that haven't already been spoiled for you by all of the tabloid media attention given the film during production. (When the fifth character of your story is New York City it's kind of tough to keep the goings on under wraps.)

But suffice it to say I was extremely pleased with all of the girls' storylines and how they were all woven together. Unlike the series where each episode took place over the span of a couple of days, the movie encompasses an entire year. Some have said it's like watching an entire season of the show on the big screen. I can't disagree with that but I also do not think of it as a bad thing; actually it's just what I was hoping for!

Everything that made the series famous and fabulous is present here in spades. The humor, the emotion, the fashion, the sex and of course the drama! Also, side note on the sex part, kudos to King for being bold enough to include some full frontal, well sidle, male nudity in there finally! Know your audience man, good job!

The only complaints I have are relatively minor ones that only someone who knows the show would have; for example I was sad to see that Willie Garson who plays Carrie's loveably bold gay best friend Stanford Blach had so little to do. I guess it's tough to fully include everyone in the mix but I felt like he kind of got left out a bit. Charolette's gay pal on the other hand, Wedding Planner extrodinaire Anthony Marintino played by the overly loud former host of Steam Pipe Alley (yeah that's right I went there) Mario Cantone has some fantastic scenes to play and some one liners that bring the house down.

Aside from that one minor quip there was just one other not so small problem with the film for me"¦ Oscar, Golden Globe, blah blah blah winner Jennifer Hudson as Carries newly hired assistant…disaster. She's a lovely girl and the part was well written but I'm sorry she can not act her way out of a paper bag! She was crazy lucky getting the most perfect part in the world for her as Effie in Dreamgirls but she can't act! She can play herself very well, with tons of attitude no doubt, but not someone else. There I said it… let the ‘I love J. Hud emails’ commence.

This is the type of movie going experience that really doesn't need reviews. Everyone who is already a fan you guys are already in line to see it so all I can say is, 'It's worth it! You're going to enjoy it and you may even go back twice like I did because it is that much fun!'

This may or may

not, (probably not) be the end of this story and if it is, then it's one hell of an ending! I wasn't thrilled with how things were wrapped up on the show with Carrie off in Paris with that Russian ballerina (Mikahil Barishnikov) for so long. And not that I'm giving anything away about the film, but in the show everyone met their perfect someone and was part of a happy couple; and anyone who lives in New York knows how ridiculous a notion that is! So let's just say more people will be leaving the theater nodding their heads to the resolution more so this time around.

Also, if you haven't seen the series and find any of this at all interesting go pick up the DVD Box Set because it is such a great show that regardless of the year the stories remain completely relevant both to New Yorkers and those of you who wonder why we are the way we are!
