I was curious about The Day the Earth Stood Still remake until I heard the big twist.  Yes, it’s a remake of the classic 1951 sci-fi movie about an alien and his robot who visit Earth, but instead of them coming to warn about war and atomic power, they’re coming to warn about the environment.
Yep, it’s a “green movie.”
For those of you who didn’t just go to another website out of disgust, 20th Century Fox just released a five minute long trailer for the movie. The good news is that it actually looks pretty cool and well-made. The bad news is that it’s basically a summary of the first forty-five minutes of the movie. So after watching this, don’t worry about getting to the theater late, because you’ve already seen it.
One of the big components of the original movie was Gort, the robot the alien brings with him. Â He’s still intact here, and he looks like the weakest part of the movie. Â The final minute and a half of the trailer is basically a blitz of special effects from the second half of the movie, but the special effects on Gort just don’t look very good.
Check it out for yourself:
And check out the fun trailer for the original 1951 movie below the cut…
