Gran Torino Arrives on the Scene with a Poster and Trailer!

Remember in 2006, when Clint Eastwood pulled the one-two punch of Flags of our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima?  Flags got the majority of the press, but then Iwo Jima – which Eastwood didn’t finish filming until a couple of months before its release — ended up getting the Best Picture nomination.
Unlike those two films, Changeling and Gran Torino aren’t companion pieces.  But the same thing may very well end up happening to them.  And excitingly, Eastwood actually directs and stars in Torino, making it his first on-screen appearance since 2004′s Million Dollar Baby.
Wait…you haven’t heard of Gran Torino? Â Until less than a month ago, we didn’t even have an official synopsis, so don’t feel bad. Â Here it is, by the way:
Walt Kowalski is a widower, grumpy, tough-minded, borderline-hateful, unhappy old man who can’t get along with either his kids or his neighbors, a Korean War veteran whose prize possession is a 1973 Gran Torino he keeps in cherry condition. When his neighbor Tao, a young Hmong teenager, tries to steal his Gran Torino, Kowalski sets out to reform the youth. Drawn against his will into the life of Tao’s family, Kowalski is soon taking steps to protect them form the gangs that foul their neighborhood.Â
The movie seems like it’s trying to find a balance somewhere in between awards contender and revenge thriller. Â Check out the trailer:
