Hollywood Goes Psycho Over the Bates Motel Again!

In 1960, Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece of suspense, Psycho hit the sliver screen and has been terrifying millions ever since. Whether it’s the list of ill-fated Psycho sequels or the 1998 reboot, Hollywood has tried to recapture the magic the original bestowed on its audience, but has not been able to do it. So what’s a studio to do you may ask? How about a TV show? Well, that is exactly what Carlton Cuse, famed Lost show runner, has in mind.

According to tvline.com, Cuse and Kerry Ehrin (Parenthood,Friday Night Lights) are creating a show for A&E based on the Hitchcock classic. However, in this cinematic version, Cuse and Ehrin seek to delve into the life of Norman Bates and his overbearing mother before the 1960 film. Taking place during Norman’s formative years: this twisted, and deeply sinister backstory promises to expose how his mother’s influence helped shape him into one of cinema’s most formidable villains.

As a huge fan of anything Hitchcock created, I was a little hesitant when I first read this headline, but if anybody can craft a story as brilliant as the original but still hold true to their vision, I believe it is Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin. So come 2013 I will be tuning in to Bates Motel on A&E, let the countdown commence!
